Nutraceuticals for Canine and Feline Care

Alexandra Bastedo

Alexandra Bastedo, one of the driving forces behind Pet Nutrition Concepts, is best known for her starring role in the cult series The Champions. She is also the author of a number of books: The Healthy Dog Book, The Healthy Cat Book and Beware Dobermans, Donkeys and Ducks. A supporter of local animal rescue centres and patron of the Animal Welfare Trust, she is closely involved with animal charities. She has run her own animal sanctuary of 200 animals for the past 25 years and has succeeded in keeping them healthy into old age by using a wide range of nutritional supplements, under the professional guidance of her Homoeopathic Vet. Alexandra’s strong commitment to animal welfare led her to become involved in the development of the original Canine Care range of nutritional products, and now the Feline Care Range as well.

Many Vets are recognising the need for nutritional products to complement pet’s diets. Various researchers state that poor diet is the cause of between 42 & 70% of illness in man. We can expect that a similar figure is true in dogs, and the real figure may be higher as dogs are fed more and more synthesised processed food. Alexandra addressed dietary problems by initially creating her book The Healthy Dog Book, followed more recently by The Healthy Cat Book (available from Pet Nutrition Concepts Ltd). Having asked her Vets to review the recipes, formulation of a range of nutritional products to complement the recipes, as well as many commercial diets, was a logical step. Nutrition has already been making it’s mark in her vet Mark Elliott’s Veterinary practice for some time, and Pet Nutrition’s supplements are now in extensive use, with many animals showing improvements on supplements alone, without the use of drugs.
