Nutraceuticals for Canine and Feline Care

“Evidence is growing that free radical attack on tissues is a major cause of the increasing levels of disease today”

Canine & Feline:
Anti-Oxidant Formula

The original Canine and Feline Care Anti-Oxidant Formulas are designed as dietary supplements to aid in the fight against free radical oxidative damage to living tissue. Free radicals are formed in the system due to atmospheric pollutants, chemicals in feed, stress, sunlight etc. and accumulate as the body’s natural defenses age.

Grape seed extract contains OPC’s, a group of colourless bioflavinoids which are said to be one of the most powerful anti-oxidants available. Combined with the Vitamin Anti-Oxidants A, C & E, and the mineral Selenium, Grape Seed alone would have been excellent; but Pet Nutrition Concepts have added Bilberry and Boswellia for their additional Anti-Oxidant properties, and Echinacea for it’s immune system boosting capabilities. In all a unique Anti-Oxidant supplement for Dogs.

OPC’s

Present in all plants, but particularly grape seeds OPC’s are probably the most powerful antioxidants available (more than 40 times more potent than vitamin E). It is thought particularly important now much fruit is picked unripe for transportation and so does not have the chance to manufacture OPC in the sun ripening process. It is used as a supplement to help repair damaged collagen and protect it from aging. It is said to help counteract inflammation and allergies by inhibiting the formation of histamine, and is easily absorbed by the body. It is non-toxic and therefore safe even in large doses.

Bilberry

Bilberry is an anthocyanoside flavonoid with antioxidant properties, given as a supplement to aid improving the flexibility of cell membranes and capillaries, particularly in the eye, allowing nutrients and oxygen to be carried to the tissues. It has been found effective in humans against the formation of cataracts, may help glaucoma and assist retinal function. It also has a damaging effect on bacteria, inhibiting their growth.

Boswellia (Canine formula only)

An antioxidant extract from Frankincense, Boswellia comes from the Ayurvedic tradition where it is used in treatment of arthritis, inhibiting fungal growth, lowering cholesterol and in the therapy of asthma, skin disease and diseases of the digestive system. It is said to be as effective as many non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs via inhibiting the synthesis of leukotrienes (biological substances that trigger inflammation).
